2018-01-14 Dan Gurney, race car driver from California, the man who has been successful in nearly every road racing venue on the planet, who has driven through the golden age of Grand Prix and sports car racing in America and Europe, passed away today from complications of pneumonia at the age of 87.
“With one last smile on his handsome face, Dan drove off into the unknown just before noon today.” wrote Mark Vaughn - West Coast Editor. “He read an email we got that was signed Evi Gurney, the Gurney family and AAR teammates.” The email read, “In deepest sorrow, with gratitude in our hearts for the love and joy you have given us during your time on this earth, we say, Godspeed.”
The racing started in 1955 for Gurney, he drove for Ferrari, BRM, Porsche and Brabham in Formula One. Gurney formed his own team and won the Belgian Grand Prix in 1967 - it was the first and only time an American won an F1 race in a car of his own design. Also In 1967, Gurney and AJ Foyt drove the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Ford GT40 Mark IV and won, therein he started a tradition in Motorsports, Gurney was the very first driver on the stage to spray with champagne.
He retired from race car driving in 1970 with 51 victories. The sunset is your today Mr Dan Gurney, drive on.
2018-01-13 Christopher Bell wins his second in as many years and takes home his another Golden Driller trophy on Saturday at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals. The 2018 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion wins his second Golden Driller Trophy in as many years but only after the race leader Kyle Larson’s engine failed with 13 laps to go.
The lead was back and forth during the first half of the race, then Larson regained the top spot but fell out on Lap 27. With about 15 laps to go Bell cut into his teammate’s margin and that’s when the oil line began to trail from Larson’s Midget.The race stayed green and Bell would go unchallenged for the win.
2018-01-13 Felix Rosenqvist wins the Formula E and moves to the top of the standings with the win in Morocco on Saturday. Rosenqvist played it safe until a late move on Sebastien Buemi to clinch his second consecutive win of the season on Saturday.
Starting from the pole position, Buemi maintained the led all the way through the pit-stop phase, but ultimately lost out to Rosenqvist. Harding Racing is made up of the team owner Mike Harding, who owns Harding Paving in Indianapolis and president Brian Barnhart, who was a key member of the Indy Racing League in its early days and went on to become IndyCar Series president. Longtime racer Larry Curry is the team manager and two-time Indianapolis 500 winning driver Al Unser Jr. is the executive assistant.
The Chevrolet team made three starts last season with driver Gabby Chaves. 2018-01-09 Hendrick Motorsports announced on Tuesday that veteran racing program manager Alba Colon has been named the team’s director of competition. The longtime Chevrolet technical adviser will assume her new post over the next few weeks leading up to the start of the NASCAR season. She effectively replaces Darian Grubb, who was selected in November as crew chief for Cup Series rookie William Byron and the HMS No. 24. The Camaro ZL1’s primary objective for Chevrolet is current-day relevance, in the showroom and on the speedways. The team was roughly one second slower than the Cadillac DPi-V.Rs and qualified fourth and fifth on Sunday in a new session that set the garage and pit stalls for the Rolex 24 in three weeks.
