Al Unser Jr will once again race. A two time Indy 500 winner - Al Unser Jr is listed among the entries for the 96th annual Pike Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado in June of 2018. 55 year old Unser, raced there in 1983 and won the event earning the name “King of the Mountain” after winning the Open Wheel crown in his Wells Coyote Chevy.
Unser retired from racing in 2007 but has raced in some select events since then, including the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in 2013 and the Pro/Celebrity race at Indy in 2014. Unser will pilot a vintage 1938 Chevrolet sedan built by Ray Evernham. The concept for this car was born out of Evernham’s passion for vintage race cars, respect for innovation and concern for safety.
Evernham will be taking his modified to several vintage races in 2018, however he will focus his efforts on the SVRA event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the vintage event at Pocono Raceway, a drag racing session at zMAX Dragway, a landspeed trial run at the Bonneville Salt Flats and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Al Unser Jr. at the wheel.
