Dillon who was destined to take second place was handed the win when Jimmie Johnson #48 driver of the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet from El Cajon, CA ran out of gas in the final 2 laps

Martin Truex Jr. lead for 233 laps, he and Kyle Busch were on track to take first and second place, but they could not make up a big deficit after pitting for fuel with 33 laps remaining. Jimmie Johnson and Austin Dillon among others chose to stay out of the pits.

Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. regained all the lost time after pitting for fuel to take 2nd and 3rd place respectively, Matt Kenseth was fourth, and Denny Hamlin fifth.
