Fastest Most Powerful Race Cars April 21 22 23 in Texas
Artistic Rendering of Royal Purple Raceway
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series shows off the fastest most powerful, nitro-burning machines in the world in the Lone Star State for the first time this year, April 21-23 2017, at the Royal Purple Raceway for the 30th annual NHRA SpringNationals. This will be the 5th event this year of the 24 events scheduled in 2017 NHRA season.

This will be one of two NHRA trips to Texas this year. Fans will get a early-season look at the high-powered 10,000-horsepower, 300-mph machines.

Royal Purple Raceway has always featured some of the quickest and exciting runs in NHRA history, benefiting from incredible atmospheric conditions thanks to its proximity to Trinity Bay.

Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock classes will battle for race victories and critical world championship points. Doug Kalitta Top Fuel, Courtney Force Funny Car and Greg Anderson Pro Stock were last year’s winners of the event.

Doug Kalitta has 42 career wins, including back-to-back SpringNationals wins. He has three overall at the track and a fourth would give him the all-time Top Fuel lead. The competition is tough to say the least , including eight-time world champion Tony Schumacher, who won recently in Gainesville, and points leader Leah Pritchett, who won the first two races this year. Let's not forget about Antron Brown back-to-back world champ, rookie Troy Coughlin Jr, Brittany Force and Texas native Steve Torrence.

Courtney Force with her Funny Car win last year, broke a winless streak that dated back to 2014 with a final-round victory against Tim Wilkerson. She’s looking to snag her first win of the season in Houston after back-to-back first-round losses. It won’t be easy to win against this year’s points leader Matt Hagan, who won the first two races so far. John Force, a seven-time winner in Houston, is hot on his heels after a win in Gainesville.

The NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series makes its second of 12 stops in 2017 at Royal Purple Raceway. Steven Whiteley was the victor at the season opener in Gainesville. The event also features thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, showcasing the future stars of the sport.

Mello Yello Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 4:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday, April 21 and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, April 22, at 1:30 and 4 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 23.
