2017-1029 In a unlikely win Busch survived a wild ending to outrun Martin Truex Jr. to the checkered flag in overtime.

“Awesome to get to victory lane here at Martinsville,” Busch said. “You know I wanted to win Charlotte, Martinsville and Homestead and that’ll make us this year’s champions, so we’ve got one more. Just wanted to say our guys did an awesome job preparing this car. We weren’t the best all day, but we put ourselves in the right spots there at the end and there was kind of chaos ensuing and none of it was our fault, we just came out on the right end of the stick.”

In the end racing to the checkered flag was filled with drama that started a few laps earlier when Denny Hamlin hit the rear bumper of then current leader Chase Elliott. The contact turned Elliott around, and caution flew. On the ensuing restart it was Busch getting by Hamlin for the top spot and he was able to out race Truex Jr. to the checkered flag while a huge accident broke out behind him as he crossed the start-finish line for the win.

"Yep, he definitely wrecked me," Elliott said in his team's radio, referring to Denny Hamlin. Later after the race Elliott confronted Hamlin about the incident, stating Hamlin cost him the win after leading for 123 laps.

Martin Truex Jr. was 2nd, Clint Bowyer 3rd, Brad Keselowski 4th, Kevin Harvick 5th, Trevor Bayne 6th, Denny Hamlin 7th, Ryan Blaney 8th, Matt Kenseth 9th and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rounded out the top ten.
