Pro Stock Motorcycles ran before the rain came in Atlanta this Friday. Angelle Sampey holds the number 1 qualifier spot.

NHRA officials ended racing early for the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals in Atlanta at Atlanta Dragway.

Sampey rode the Team Liberty Racing Victory Magnum bike to a number 1 qualifying second pass in 6.904 seconds at 193.16 mph.

Sampey said, "To leave the starting line and go straight, shift on time and stay under power all the way to the finish line was the best feeling I’ve had in a long time, I didn’t even care where it was on the ladder, just the fact that I made a full pull on the first round. I was so excited."

Hector Arana was 2nd on his Lucas Oil Buell motorcycle after a 6.911 second pass at 194.13 mph. Matt Smith held 3rd with his Victory Gunner motorcycle.

After repeated attempts to dry the track and then the temperature dropped, racing for the day was stopped at 6:25 p.m.

NHRA Mello Yello Series qualifying is set to resume on Sat. at 1:15 p.m.
