NASCAR increases the penalty for rear suspension infractions
NASCAR increases the penalty for rear suspension infractions
2017-09-08 Two Cup teams have been busted for failing the truck trailing arm spacers and pinion angle shims inspection.

NASCAR has decided to increase the penalty for the infraction that has encumbered two Monster Energy Cup Series victories this season.

The sanctioning body informed teams on Friday at Richmond Raceway that violations of the rear suspension rule previously broken by the teams of Denny Hamlin Darlington and Joey Logano Richmond I will now be penalized at the highest end of the L1 punishment scale introduced back in February.

Specifically, their truck trailing arm spacers and pinion angle shims were not in complete contact with the corresponding mating surface and drew an inspection failure during their respective post-race evaluations at the NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord, North Carolina. The infraction now carries a 40-point penalty, a $75,000 fine, a three-week suspension for both the crew chief and car chief in addition to the loss of all playoff points earned during that particular race.

The previous penalties were 25 points, two-week suspension for the crew chief and a $50,000 fine.
