2018-01-20 Englishtown, New Jersey’s Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is not able to host the NHRA 2018 Summer Nationals formerly held June 7-10. NHRA is not expected to replace the event.
The runoff area at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park is meager and Modern Top Fuel Dragsters require copious runoff areas at the end of the track. NHRA Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta was killed in a crash at Old Bridge Raceway Park in June of 2008, when his car was not stopped in the runoff area and hit a crane beyond the runoff area.
"NHRA drag racing events have been held at the track in Englishtown for almost 50 years," said NHRA president Glen Cromwell. "The Summernationals have played an important part in our heritage, and we hope that fans in the area will try to make it to another one of our events. Our focus remains on making the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series a memorable experience for our fans, racers, sponsors, partners and tracks."
The Old Bridge Township Raceway Park will remain open for other venues and use the stadium portion of the track, including VIP hospitality towers and grandstands for auto swap meets, cars shows, autocross and kart racing.
