2017-11-12 Sebastian Vettel scored his first Formula 1 victory since July at the Brazilian Grand Prix Sunday.
Vettel was ready to go and wasted no time snatching the lead away from Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas at the start. Getting the stronger start of the two, the German dove down the inside at turn one to pull off a highly skilled move that would have sent a lesser driver to the pits.
“Initially I had a good getaway but then I had a bit of wheelspin so thought I had missed my chance but I think that Valtteri was struggling even more off the line so I really had a chance to squeeze down the inside and I think it surprised him a bit which, obviously was crucial,” said Vettel.“After that we were pushing, after the safety car, for the remaining 65 laps flat out. I was trying to give everything to pull a little bit of a gap, control the race from there so I’m really happy. Especially for the guys in the team back home in Maranello. They’ve been working so hard.“It’s been a tough couple of weeks for us but it’s nice to get it today and have both cars up here.”
“For now, it is a great release,” said Vettel. “Obviously, it’s been a tough race. I just spoke with Valtteri and I think the pace, we were all more or less the same. It was really difficult – no room for mistakes. It was really difficult to control the tires the whole race so I think it will take a while and then I’m sure we will have a drink and see what is coming.”
2nd went to Valtteri Bottas - Mercedes, 3rd went to Kimi Raikkonen - Ferrari, 4th went to Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes and 5th went to Max Verstappen - Red Bull.
