2017-11-11 Byron won his 4th of the season and his first at Phoenix Raceway. Pitting and Taking 2 tires on Lap 183 proved to be the winning combination as Byron captured the lead and held it to the finish.
“I don’t know how we it – grinded all day,” Byron said. “It was a great job by the team and a great pit call by Dave. We’re so ready to go to Homestead. It got robbed from me last year here in Phoenix, so this makes up for that. Awesome job.”
“The second-to-last run of the race it took off on the long run,” said Byron, “I got up to third, and we got the two tires on it, and we were able to stay up there. “I felt like clean air was pretty important. The 20, the 22 and us were really similar. Whoever was in third would lose distance to the front two after probably 20 or 30 laps. We just had to adjust on it and make sure we got it right for the last pit stop.”
Leading a race-high 147 laps, Ryan Blaney ended up finishing 2nd. Erik Jones was 3rd, Christopher Bell 4th and Daniel Hemric rounded out the top five.
